TEAM_8 "The Trace"

Shape filled with functions
Have you ever been to Hurban Barracks? It’s an amazing place right at the corner of Bratislava city center and its pedestrian area but it is empty since Army left. These old buildings are closing a courtyard as big as the Main square of the city.
It’s a new chance for Bratislava to make not only a cool cultural centre but also to bring more life, people and creativity to the city. We can easily transform its spirit through these buildings.
So catch this chance and do it as fast as possible, or wait and do it our way, the best way.
Since making such a decision implies a huge bureaucratic process we consider that our ministers after 10 - 30 years will be still waiting to do something, and the buildings will be completely ruined that time. So we don't need to keep them. Let's make something awesome inside and keep the original shape just as a memory of the place. A symbol.
The result will link the history of the place to the contemporary needs in perfect harmony.

Through this and re-organization of the open public space around (square, roads, pedestrian paths, etc.) the building should work as a node within the urban network of the city. We can create a great meeting point for people of all ages. (remember we are at the beginning of the pedestrian area). A multifunctional complex which is ensuring a diversity of functions, mix of targets, schedules, etc. and keep the place as lively as possible day and night.
