TEAM_7 ""the KNOT of the military barracks"
Our first feelings when we came into the introvert yard of old military barracks was, that it will be great if we should open this space for public, for their cultural activities. So opening this space became the main issue, but on the other hand we wanted to protect values of existing building. We needed a simple, but strong idea which includes both requirements. We started looking for a new attractor for this space.
During our discussions we created an idea of “KNOT”, which tights together greenery and culture. Connecting medical garden with Kollar square the KNOT will became a part of system connecting green areas of the city Bratislava. People during their walks will find out new atmosphere attracting them to just stay here and relax with culture.
It’s new fresh architecture attracts people to experience new cultural atmosphere of bAR(T)acks. Knot will leads you through the whole building, through many different cultural experiences. It will change barracks into school of art for public. This concept will bring interaction between public and artist. Visitors will meet with artists, whose will have their work in ateliers as well as spaces for their everyday life.
Courtyard as a central space will become flexible space for organizing many events, performances, winter markets, ice skating… . Supported by the KNOT with its functions and ground floor with city functions like coffe, design shops, book shop barracks has good potential of become lively cultural space.
